Expert Category: Sleep
Hello, Families! I'm an overnight Newborn Care Specialist (AKA Night Nurse, Night Nanny), Holistic Sleep Consultant, Safe Sleep Ambassador, Doula in training and Owner of Baby Bliss Newborn Consulting. I've supported families with their babies for over 19 years! I provide one of the greatest, most valuable gifts to new parents — the gift of sleep! I love supporting parents with the transition to having a baby, and empowering them with the skills to make life with a newborn as easy as possible. My extensive experience with holistic remedies, breastfeeding challenges, bottle feeding challenges, oral dysfunction and ties, new parent support, reflux resolutions, holistic and gentle sleep conditioning/coaching (absolutely no CIO) and creating a sustainable routine that works for each family has been very beneficial for the families I've supported. I'm currently available for overnight in-home support and in-home consultations on all things babies and sleep! I serve all of south Orange County to Laguna Beach, Aliso Viejo and Mission Viejo, and in north San Diego down to La Jolla, Miramar and Scripps Ranch. I'm also available for virtual support for overall newborn care, prenatal planning, registry creation/editing, gently sleep conditioning newborns and holistically sleep training older babies. I've helped hundreds of new parents set up their sleep and their baby's sleep for long-term success! While I work overnights in-person, I also provide virtual support on my nights off and will create a personalized, age appropriate sleep plan — including a flexible daytime routine and nap schedule — for your baby. I'm naturally a night owl, and prefer providing awake care for my (and your) peace of mind. Please feel free to reach out any time. I'd love to hear from you!
Frequently Asked Questions
When do babies sleep through the night?
Every baby is different and as newborns, we don't expect them to sleep through the night (8+ hours) until at least 8-12 weeks of age. Some babies aren't able to sleep so long until they're a bit older.
Is it normal for babies to always turn towards one side?
Most babies do tend to have a side preference when they're born. However, if they have a strong side preference and limited range of motion on one side, I'd highly recommend gentle body work from a Pediatric Chiropractor, Craniosacral Therapist, or Physical Therapist. Body work relieves tension babies develop when they're scrunched up in the womb, and during labor and delivery.
Are weighted swaddles, or sleep sacks okay to use?
No. Weighted products go against the AAP’s safe sleep practices. Weighted products are not safe for babies and young toddlers as they can become stuck on their tummies if they roll in them. Babies’ rib cages are also soft — like cartilage — so putting any weight on them for extended periods can restrict their breathing when their ribs flex and put pressure on their lungs.
